Geek Squad - Best Buy - Not Clear about Windows versions supported by Geek Squad
However, when I brought in my desktop to Best Buy; the rep told me "we don't work on computers running Vista because MS doesn't support Vista anymore". This rep asked me if I had mentioned the computer was running Vista to any of the reps I had spoken to. I said, "No. And that NONE of the "professionals" at Geek Squad had asked me the version of Windows on the computer either." This rep then says, "oh those reps online may not have that information." Well...all 4 of those reps put me on hold to get my question answered by their superior. So it appears the managing reps AND the in-store rep don't know to inform the customer that GS doesn't work on computers running Vista.
I could understand GS not wanting to fix a computer running an old Windows version. But the task was to wipe the hard drive for recycling. I believe GS has made a corporate decision NOT to do this task. After all, most computers being recycled probably don't run the most updated Windows version. Had I been given the correct info, I would have just removed the hard drive and destroyed it....INSTEAD of dragging a heavy desktop into Best Buy. What a waste of time.
I did call Geek Squad last night to report this issue so other customers would get more complete information. A rep told me she would "give this info to her supervisor tomorrow morning." She said, the supervisor would call me. I did not get a call, nor an email from Geek Squad. So, I am writing this review. HEY GEEK SQUAD...train you staff with correct info when customers ask about wiping a hard drive. And be honest that you don't do this work.
